Gas workers give gardens a spruce up

A GREEN-FINGERED batch of Scottish Gas staff have helped revamp the gardens at Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre.

The 30-strong team freshened-up the centre's grounds at the Western General Hospital, after cultivating 800 for the gardening project through office fundraising schemes.

Staff planted alpines and plants, built a rockery and painted the bordering fence.

This marks the second phase of the tidy-up, after two days were spent revitalising a wasteland area last year.

In total, Scottish Gas employees have netted more than 8,000 for the charity, which helps fund its programme of emotional and practical support for people with cancer, their friends and families.

Marion Taylor, Maggie's Edinburgh community fundraiser, said the energy supplier was a "dream partner".

"It has been an innovative partnership, with Scottish Gas fundraising for us, offering their expertise for our benefits advice service, and getting stuck into practical projects," she said.
