Gas monitor plan for homes gets go-ahead

PLANS for a major safety programme which will see carbon monoxide monitors installed in every local authority home in the Capital have been approved by the city council.

Around 18,000 homes which have a gas supply will receive a detector as part of the 400,000 project.

While there is currently no legal obligation to install the detectors, which will be replaced every six years, the health, social care and housing committee said they would give residents piece of mind. Housing leader Councillor Paul Edie said: "Whilst there have been no deaths in our council homes attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning, I am sure our tenants will welcome this additional safety measure."
