Gardens in full bloom for winter

FOUR public gardens around the Capital are to feature in an annual winter festival.

The Royal Botanic Garden will join Kevoch Garden in Lasswade, Shepherd House Garden at Inveresk and Hopetoun House at South Queensferry in the fifth Scottish Snowdrop Festival from February 1 to March 15.

The festival, organised by VisitScotland, attempts to promote the winter beauty of Scotland's gardens.

The gardens that have been chosen are all said to be good places to see snowdrops.

Manuela Calchini, regional director for VisitScotland, said: "Local gardens and parklands play an important role in attracting visitors.

"People visiting Edinburgh and the Lothians can enjoy the Snowdrop Festival by visiting these gardens, which deliver a spectacular show at this time of year."
