Garden waste collections growing to meet increased demand in city

A SHAKE-UP of the way that the Capital's garden waste is collected is to take place.

The city council has ordered a series of changes to cope with "huge demand" for the service.

The routes of the collection vehicles are to change, meaning that many residents will get their brown bins collected on a different day. Vehicles will collect the garden waste on five days a week, instead of four.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, the city's environment leader, said: "We have seen our garden waste recycling service become more popular over the last few years and this is great news because more people will be reducing, reusing and recycling. We are asking for residents to bear with us while we reshape this important recycling facility and make the service better for the future."

The new routes will come into effect from March 28.

Further information on garden waste collections can be found on a dedicated website, www.greenboxday.co.uk, where residents can type in their postcode to see when they will have their garden waste collected.

The service collects flowers and plants, weeds, grass clippings, hedge trimmings, leaves, small branches, woody stems and cut up Christmas trees.
