"This was a particularly brutal and apparently senseless attack on a young boy" - Detective Superintendent Elliot McKenzie of Strathclyde Police

Story in full A MAJOR murder inquiry was under way last night in Glasgow after a schoolboy was abducted in broad daylight in a busy city street, beaten and stabbed to death, and his body dumped in a lane less than 200 yards from Parkhead football stadium.

Strathclyde Police began trawling CCTV footage after the body of Kris Donald, 15, from Pollokshields, was found at the rear of the Celtic Supporters’ Club building on London Road in the east end of the city yesterday.

Police sources refused to rule out that the teenager, who witnesses claim was abducted from a busy southside street by a group of Asian youths and bundled into a luxury saloon, was murdered over his ongoing relationship with a Pakistani girl.

The youngster was believed to have been with another teenager when the pair were approached by the group. A struggle followed in which Kris was bundled into the back of the silver car.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said a post-mortem examination was being held to establish the cause of death, but detectives were already treating the case as murder.

Detective Superintendent Elliot McKenzie of Strathclyde Police, who is leading the investigation, said it was too early to tell if it was a racially motivated attack.

He added: "This was a particularly brutal and apparently senseless attack on a young boy.

"We have yet to establish a motive for this crime and I am anxious to speak to anyone who can provide any information that may assist in this investigation.

"We are obviously treating this very seriously. The boy’s family are distraught with worry. He has no history of being missing before and the reports we have are that he was grabbed and bundled into a car."

The family of the victim, who was due to celebrate his 16th birthday in two months’ time, were last night said to be too upset to talk about their son’s death.

A neighbour in the three-storey tenement where the youngster stayed with his mother, Angela, and sister, Samantha, said: "It’s too soon. Everyone is in a state of shock. The family don’t want to say anything. He’s just a young boy. For him to be caught up in something like this is unbelievable."

It is understood the youngster, who was believed to have been in the company of a 19-year-old student, was walking near Kenmure Road when he and his companion were approached by the group.

His friend managed to escape uninjured and was last night helping police with piecing together the identity of the attackers.

The kidnappers are believed to have sped along Kenmure Road at high speed.

Community leaders last year called for action to be taken after a series of firebombings of local businesses and clashes between white and Asian youths.

In September, the son of a local religious leader was severely beaten by a gang of white youths wielding baseball bats. At the time, Hanif Rajah, a Pakistani community leader in Pollokshields, said people were scared to come out of their houses.

"Something has to be done about this. The Asian youths are as bad as the white youths; we are not blaming only the white youths," he said.

"We are saying that there is a serious problem amongst the gangs, and that has to be sorted out."
