Gang 'glued to door' in bank protest

THREE RBS protesters glued themselves to an Edinburgh branch during a protest which caused the bank to close, a court has heard.

Dr Giovanna Speciale, 38, Tim Gee, 25, both of London, and Cara Whelan, 34, from Wales, are accused of gluing themselves to each other and the entrance door of the RBS at Edinburgh's Nicolson Street.

The three climate change protesters deny placing the public in a state of fear and alarm and committing a breach of the peace. The offence is alleged to have happened on August 23 last year.

Bank worker Alison Lithgow, 47, told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that three people were standing outside the bank and that customers had to go between their arms to get into the branch. The court also heard that inside the bank a group of people were singing Lady Gaga's Poker Face.

Sheriff Neil MacKinnon continued the trial until next month.
