Game on for older patients at hospital

OLDER people with mental health issues have been given access to a popular games console to improve their minds.

NHS Lothian is trialling the Nintendo Wii, which combines games with physical activity.

Patients in Herdmanflat Hospital are among those to benefit from the scheme as health chiefs find new ways to manage conditions like dementia.

Fiona Graham, head of occupational therapy for mental health in East Lothian, said: "There is growing evidence that using these games with older people can help with balance, flexibility and hand-to-eye co-ordination."
