Gallery chief critically ill after horror crash

A DIRECTOR of The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh was left critically ill after being struck by a van on a pavement as he walked home from work.

Robin McClure, 55, was hit by a John Lewis van after it swerved to avoid colliding with another car as the van approached the Nethertown Broad Street roundabout in Dunfermline.

The married father-of-two was transported to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline where he was in intensive care, with his condition initially described as "life-threatening".

However, Mr McClure - who suffered considerable damage to his legs in the accident - is now expected to make a full recovery.

Fellow Scottish Gallery director, Christina Jansen, said: "He does have bad injuries to his legs but the prognosis is he will make a full recovery. It was just one of these freak accidents - he was just someone walking home from work, it could have happened to anyone."

The drivers of the two vehicles were uninjured and questioned in connection with the incident.
