Fungus society takes root

SCIENTISTS have established the world's first society for fungal conservation at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh.

Experts from across the globe met in the Capital to found the International Society for Fungal Conservation.

The group aims to put a spotlight on the world of fungi and created awareness about how important fungi are to the world.

Associate research mycologist Dr David Minter said: "Without fungi, life as we know it on this planet - and that includes us - could not exist."
