Funeral of loch tragedy man held

THE funeral of a man who died trying to rescue the family dog from a frozen loch was held yesterday.

John McAllister was killed when he fell through ice into the freezing water of the Gadloch in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire.

Mr McAllister, 37, waded into the loch when he saw the dog struggling in the water last month.

His body was recovered by the emergency services more than two hours later.

Mr McAllister’s funeral was held at Daldowie Crematorium yesterday.

The family asked for donations to be made to the Dogs Trust charity instead of flowers.

The family’s spaniel, Tain, also died in the tragedy.

Mr McAllister’s father, Roddy, who had been walking the dog, said at the time that his son was “a good, hard-working boy”, who had been “a silly hero”.
