Funds boost for aspiring scriptwriters

The Scottish Youth Theatre has received £10,000 in funding to train aspiring young scriptwriters.

The Arts & Business group has provided 5000 of the sponsorship, while public relations firm Beattie Communications has added 5000.

The cash will be used to create a Scottish Youth Theatre young writers course, which will offer teenagers the chance to develop scriptwriting skills.

The scheme, which will run throughout spring in Glasgow and autumn in Inverness, will give writers the chance to work closely with professional scriptwriters, then have their work realised by the theatre group's young actors and directors.

Mary McCluskey, Scottish Youth Theatre director said: "The scheme provides a supportive environment which encourages young people to explore their creativity through the process of writing."
