Fundraising emergency crews honoured

POLICE and firefighters who raised £17,500 in a boxing contest between the emergency services have been honoured by the disabled children’s charity they helped.

Caudwell Children presented awards to both services in recognition of the funds raised by the Battle of the Badges tournament held at the Corn Exchange in November.

The sell-out event saw officers and firefighters battling it out, with the fire service emerging victorious on the night.

Trudi Beswick, chief executive of Caudwell Children, said: “Lothian and Borders Police and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service have shown tremendous support in helping change the lives of disabled children.

“Not only do these servicemen show true courage and determination in helping protect those in their community, they have taken their goodwill even further.

“It is an absolute pleasure to honour those involved and recognise their outstanding achievements in helping the work of Caudwell Children.”

The presentation comes ahead of the Battle of Britain boxing tournament in April, when Lothian and Borders Police will take on Staffordshire Police.

Steve Harding, the force’s recreation co-ordinator, said: “This event enabled us to cement the existing healthy working relationship and enhance the mutual respect within each organisation.”
