Fundraising cyclist proves he's a Starr

A TORNESS power station engineer has completed a gruelling cycle the length of mainland Britain after pedalling from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Mick Starr, 62, from Dunbar spent two weeks on his bike to complete the 991-mile journey and raised a four-figure sum for Barnardo's Scotland in the process.

He battled torrential rain during his first few days in Cornwall and Devon, and again as he reached the Lake District.

But he added: "We were blessed with a clear patch of weather as we crossed Rannoch Moor. The last day was fantastic as the wind moved behind us, the sun came out and we saw the sea at the north of Scotland."

Mr Starr said the cycle was a "personal, physical and mental challenge".
