Funding help offered to city charities

Charities in the Edinburgh area are being invited to discuss their funding needs at an event organised by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.

The event, on Monday, November 29, at Riverside House, Gorgie Road, will give charities the chance to have a one-to-one consultation with one of the Foundation's staff between 11am and 6.30pm, to discuss potential projects which the Foundation may be able to support.

Lecture looks at the surreal side of life

A FREE lecture looking at the subject of British Surrealism is to be held at the National Gallery in Edinburgh.

Professor Michel Remy, of the University of Nice, will look at British Surrealism's work in the field of aesthetics as well as politics, and argue that it was not merely a literary or art movement, but a mode of thinking.

The lecture - On the Thirteenth Stroke of Noon - will be held on November 30.

Show you've got a heart with Christmas clear-out

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is urging people in Edinburgh to have a Christmas clear-out and help stock its shops.

The charity is hoping to encourage people to donate good quality clothing, bric-a-brac, books and accessories to shops on Easter Road, Newington Road and Portobello Road. It is also looking for volunteers.

The charity works in the fields of medical research, influencing public policy, advice and information, and support in the community.

Church to show climate film

A FILM about climate change will be shown at Juniper Green Parish Church Hall at 7.30pm on November 18.

In Transition, which shows how communities can address environmental issues, will be screened by the community council and followed by a discussion.

Court art is an arresting sight

A SERIES of artworks inspired by the Scottish Court Service has gone on display at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, in Inverleith.

Judge for Yourself is an exhibition of work by Garvald Edinburgh artists inspired by the history, traditions and architecture of the Scottish Courts Service.

Bears and wares at fair

There will be a Christmas fair and teddy bear exhibition at Polwarth Church in Polwarth Terrace on Saturday.

The event, run by the organisers of the Polwarth Nearly New sales, will also offer original gifts and cards, stalls and homebaking.

The event runs from 10am to 12.30pm.
