Fund honours aid worker

The parents of the Scottish aid worker killed in Afghanistan have donated their life savings to set up a fund in her memory.

Ms Norgrove, 36, who died as the military tried to free her from her kidnappers last month, was buried following a humanist ceremony on Lewis, where she grew up.

Now her parents, John, 60, and Lorna, 62, who live at Mangersta on Lewis, say they have set up the Linda Norgrove Foundation to remember the late UN employee and continue her good works. The foundation launched a website yesterday

A message posted yesterday stated "We have set up this fund in our daughter Linda's name to continue her work. We have given 63,000 from her and our life savings to demonstrate our commitment."

The foundation will fund schemes such as scholarships for Afghan women to attend universities, children's orphanages, specific girls' schools.
