Fuel thieves drill into car's petrol tank

A DRIVER has condemned thieves who drilled into his car's petrol tank to steal his fuel, with prices at the pump at an all-time high.

Russell Horne, 27, woke to find his Mazda 3 sports car had been targeted in the middle of the night. He fears the thieves could have watched him fill up the tank at a nearby petrol station then followed him home.

Mr Horne, from Aberdeen, said: "I parked the car at about 7pm on the Thursday evening.

"Then I went out in the morning to go to the gym. When I turned on the engine, I saw to my surprise that the fuel tank was empty. There was also some fuel on the road. I called in a mechanic to have a look and he told me that there had been a clear hole drilled into the tank. I could hardly believe it."

Police are investigating.
