Fuel spill on B977 linked to fireball road crash

POLICE are investigating an oil or diesel spill they believe caused a two-vehicle crash which left a driver fighting for his life last night.

The collision happened shortly after 7am on the B977 road between Kintore and Dunecht in Aberdeenshire.

One of the vehicles, a black Vauxhall Corsa, burst into flames following the collision with a van near Burnside Farm, about two miles outside Kintore.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said: "The 19-year-old male driver of a black Vauxhall Corsa has sustained serious injuries. The extent of his injuries have yet to be confirmed, but are believed to be life-threatening.

"The 35-year-old male driver of a white Vauxhall Astra van travelling southbound was also conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries."

He added: "The road surface was heavily contaminated with a substance similar to diesel or oil, which was a contributory factor in this collision.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Grampian Police."
