Fuel payment cuts for OAPs

MORE than 60,000 city pensioners will be affected by the winter fuel payments cut announced in Chancellor George Osbourne's budget last week.

Figures released by the Department of Work and Pensions show that, in total, 61,390 pensioners will be affected.

Households with at least one person aged over 60 currently receive an allowance of 250, with over-80s receiving 400. The cut will reduce payments to 200 and 300 respectively.

Labour candidate for Edinburgh Central, Sarah Boyack said: "This is something that David Cameron insisted before the election wouldn't happen."
