Frustration over project's cash delay

THE convener of the Pentland Neighbourhood Partnership has criticised delays in the funding process for three local projects.

In March, approval was given to provide funding to three schemes: one that offers support to vulnerable families in Oxgangs and Clovenstone; another offering parenting support in the same area, and a third that provides mental support to families based at the Redford and Dreghorn Barracks.

Council officials have had to ensure that each project costs less than 20,000 because of procurement rules, which has caused a delay.

Councillor Jason Rust, convener of Pentlands Neighbourhood Partnership, said: "It is deeply regrettable that while the partnership and neighbourhood staff are following the process to the letter, they are being met with obstruction after obstruction.

"The council are naturally risk averse after the mess of the health and social care tender process, but there needs to be urgent action to smooth the way for Fairer Scotland Fund applications, as the money is ready to be allocated to worthwhile local projects which are losing out."
