Fringe on rights track

Amnesty International has seen a record number of entries for its Freedom of Expression Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

A total of 85 productions have been nominated for the accolade, now in its tenth year, which is awarded to a performance which raises awareness and understanding of human rights.

John Watson, Amnesty International's Scottish programme director and one of the award judges, said: "Year on year we have seen an increase in entries to the award and are delighted so many productions at this year's festival have chosen to explore human rights issues."
