Fresh hope for revamp

A NEW council office in Craigmillar has been given the go-ahead, sparking hopes that it could restart the £250 million regeneration of the area.

The city council has won approval to develop a new neighbourhood office for the east of the city and a library in Craigmillar.

It forms the first stage of the Craigmillar Town Centre Masterplan and will be a new base for 350 council staff.

Councillor Tom Buchanan, convener for economic development, said: "The building of new council office accommodation in Craigmillar is an important milestone.

"We view this as a flagship development that will act not only as a signal of this council's commitment to regeneration in Craigmillar but also as a trigger to further private investment in the area."
