Fresh calls on Gathering cash

FIRST Minister Alex Salmond has faced fresh calls to compensate creditors owed more than £100,000 for helping to stage the Gathering.

The firm behind the clans event staged in Edinburgh in 2009 collapsed with debts of £516,000, despite the Scottish Government’s £180,000 loan. Now a group of 11 creditors owed £100,797 is calling on Mr Salmond to cover their losses.

Martin Hunt, whose Tartan Silk PR firm is owed nearly £8,000, said: “The Scottish Government is providing £3m for the 2014 Homecoming, yet he seems to want to get away without paying the people who started the event.”
