Freight ferry link with Orkney

A NEW overnight sea freight ferry link between Orkney and Invergordon is to be launched shortly, creating up to 24 jobs, it was announced yesterday.

Pentland Ferries will run the service from Monday to Saturday nights over the winter period from November to March. It will use a linkspan to be reinstalled by the Cromarty Firth Port Authority (CFPA) at Invergordon. The linkspan was previously used for the Invergordon-Kirkwall freight service operated by Orcargo and Streamline which was withdrawn in April last year.

Since then the linkspan has been on loan to Orkney Islands Council to assist with the fabrication of new facilities for the Northlink ferry service into Stromness.
