Four years for man who raped teen

A MAN with a "reckless and irresponsible attitude to women" was jailed for four years for raping a teenager.

Gordon Skene was found guilty of attacking his victim and pulling down her trousers and pants but still maintained he was innocent, a court heard.

Skene, 23, of Alexandra Avenue, Bathgate, was earlier convicted of carrying out the rape on April 30 last year at a bedroom at a house in the West Lothian town despite claiming that the sex was consensual.

But the High Court in Edinburgh heard yesterday that his victim told him she did not want to have sex with him but he persisted against her will.

A judge told Skene that only a sentence of imprisonment was appropriate after a jury found him guilty of the offence.

Lord Tyre said that from a background report on him "it is clear you have had a reckless and irresponsible attitude to women".
