Four injured after car '˜mounts pavement' in St Andrews

Four people have been taken to hospital after being struck by a car which is believed to have mounted the pavement in a town centre location in St Andrews, Fife.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the incident, which occoured at the corner of the town’s Market and Church Streets, around midday today.

The four men were taken to Ninewells Hospital in nearby Dundee for treatment of leg and back injuries sustained in the collission, which involved a Volkswagen Golf car.

Eyewitnesses told the Evening Telegraph that the car had mounted the pavement outside ‘Bonkers’ gift shop, before colliding with a group of pedestrians.

Over a dozen Police Officers attended the area after the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Fife are investigating following a one-car road traffic collision in Church Street, St Andrews.

“The incident happened around 11.45am on Friday, January 12, when a Volkswagen Golf was involved in a collision with four male pedestrians.

“Police and emergency services are currently in attendance. The four pedestrians sustained minor leg and back injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

“Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and Church Street is currently closed. Members of the public are thanked for their patience at this time.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Fife’s Road Policing Unit on 101, quoting incident number 1074 of January 12.”
