Four in island rescue drama

THREE adults and a child had to be rescued from Cramond Island amid rising tides.

The RNLI was called to the incident at lunchtime on Sunday when the quartet became stranded in freezing conditions.

Fortunately, the lifeboat arrived on time and was able to take them safely to shore unharmed.

The call came 12 hours after police alerted the organisation to a man threatening to jump from the Forth Road Bridge.

Officers were able to remove him before the RNLI was required.

A spokesman said: "It has been a busy start to the year."
