Fortnight of history and archaeology

TOURS, talks, workshops and a medieval knight will be among the free attractions during East Lothian Archaeology and Local History Fortnight.

This year, the annual East Lothian Archaeology Week has grown into a fortnight of free archaeology and local history events taking place across the county in September.

The event will include guided tours of the 17th century Kirk at Kirk Ports in North Berwick and the monumental remains of the 16th century fort at Dunglass, as well as a guided tour with a real Douglas knight at Tantallon Castle.

East Lothian Council's heritage officer, Biddy Simpson, said: "This year we are offering a guided, walking tour of the site of the Battle of Pinkie, just outside of Wallyford and Musselburgh. You can also join members of the Aberlady Conservation Society and discover more about Aberlady's long history from the Iron Age."

A series of talks will also take place as part of the event, which runs from September 4-19.
