“We saw the picture on Facebook. I was like ‘Oh my God’,” said Hazel, who told the Daily Record that she and Paul and seen the snap being shared by friends on Facebook after returning to their Burntisland home.

She added: “I was a bit shocked at first but then I was so happy that she had shared it and managed to find us.

“We’re over the moon and can’t thank her enough.”

Paul, 22, proposed on the couple’s two-year anniversary, choosing the bridge for its love lock wall where loved-up couples leave padlocks symbolising their affection.

He admitted he had been ‘petrified’ while on the bridge, adding: “I was amazed she managed to track us down. Only we know what it was like at that moment. I just wanted to get off the bridge - I was petrified!”

The couple plan to get married at some point during the next two years, with six-month-old son Oliver at their side.
