Forth Road Bridge to close during night

THE Forth Road Bridge is to close for three hours in the middle of the night on seven separate days to remove the “dropped object canopy” from the north main tower.

The closures are scheduled for 12.30am until 3.30am on January 30 and 31, February 1 and 20 and March 6, 7 and 8, though dates could change if the weather is bad.

Traffic will also be restricted to a single lane in each direction from 8pm until 6am every weekday night from January 21 until the end of March. The canopy was built to protect traffic during painting work, which should not need done again for 20-30 years.

Bridgemaster and chief engineer Barry Colford said work was being carried out overnight in order to minimise
disruption to bridge users.
