Forth Ports praised for green drive

THE port of Leith operator has received a boost to its environmental credentials after receiving the Carbon Trust Standard.

Forth Ports cut its carbon emissions by more than four per cent between 2008 and 2009 compared with the previous year and will hold the award for two years, when it must reapply and demonstrate that it has continued to make year-on-year reductions in its carbon footprint.

The Carbon Trust Standard is awarded to organisations that measure, manage and reduce their carbon footprint.

Charles Hammond, Forth Ports group chief executive, said: "We're delighted to be recognised by the Carbon Trust and this award demonstrates we are delivering on our ambitious plans to reduce our impact upon climate change. Reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our customers to achieve the same is central to our business strategy."
