Former city student dies in Nepal copter crash

A FORMER Edinburgh University student has reportedly been killed in a helicopter crash in Nepal.

Officials in Nepal said Dr Harka Gurung was one of 24 people, including seven WWF employees, who died in the accident. The first tourism minister of Nepal, Dr Gurung studied for his Doctorate in Edinburgh.

He was part of a helicopter party returning from a landmark ceremony to hand over a conservation area in Nepal from the government to the local community.

The helicopter lost radio contact in bad weather after it took off in a mountainous area on Saturday.
