Former army chief takes seat in Lords

Former head of the army General Sir Richard Dannatt yesterday took his seat in the House of Lords.

Lord Dannatt, 60, was nominated as a Tory peer but has chosen to sit independently. David Cameron announced in 2009 that the soldier was advising the party and would be nominated as a peer in a future Conservative administration.
