Force deputy starts new job

DEPUTY Chief Constable Steve Allen was today set to start his first day in his new job with Lothian and Borders Police.

DCC Allen succeeded Tom Halpin as the force's deputy after moving from his post as a commander with the Metropolitan Police.

He previously served with Avon and Somerset Constabulary, where he held a variety of operational posts. During his time at the Met, he managed the aftermath of the 2005 London terrorist bombings.

Meanwhile, the force today welcomed the appointment of Chief Superintendent Gill Imery as the first female commander of A Division, which covers the entire Edinburgh area. The complement of officers that Chief Supt Imery will command is larger than some Scottish police forces.
