Footballer's dad cleared of threatening 12-year-old boy

FOOTBALLER Allan McGregor's dad has been cleared of allegations that he threatened a 12-year-old boy.

Alexander McGregor, 47, father of the 29-year-old Rangers goalkeeper, was said to have conducted himself in a disorderly manner, uttered threats, followed the 12-year-old boy, shouted and swore, placed the public in a state of fear and alarm and breached the peace. He was alleged to have acted in such a way on two occasions at Ford's Bakery, Lanark Road West and Curriehill Road, both Currie, both on March 26 last year. McGregor, of Baberton Mains Drive, Edinburgh, denied the charge against him.

Defence agent Keith Leishman, who made a no case to answer submission, said that the three child witnesses appeared to recall very different conversations and that there was no conjunction. Fiscal depute Bruce Macrosson said he could not repel this.

Sheriff Gordon Liddle found McGregor not guilty and told him: "You leave here innocent".
