Football star's attackers fined after brawl

TWO men were fined a total of £2,700 after a Scottish Premier League footballer was attacked in an assault which led to facial surgery.

Aberdeen FC captain Mark Kerr was knocked unconscious during a fight at the Priory nightclub, while out celebrating team-mate Gary McDonald's stag night with players last year. Robert Hay, 24, of Shetland Walk, and John Robb, 27, of Bonnyview drive, both Aberdeen, were arrested, and they pleaded guilty at Stonehaven Sheriff Court yesterday to assaulting the player.

On Thursday, Kerr admitted committing a breach of the peace during the fracas, but he denied assault. He was fined 250. The court heard he sparked off the brawl by "bumping into" Hay and challenging him to a fight in the early hours of 20 May.

Hay admitted assaulting Kerr by knocking him unconscious by punching him on the head and attempting to kick him on the body to his severe injury. He was fined 2,250.

Robb pleaded guilty to punching Kerr on the head and body and kicking him all to his injury. He was fined 450.

After the sheriff court hearing, Robb said: "I'm relieved it is all over and I can get on with my life now."
