Food poverty campaigners get their Phil

Volunteers have pushed a specially adapted shopping trolley – called “Phil” – from Drumbrae to the Scottish Parliament as part of a campaign to eradicate food poverty.

It comes as growing numbers of people turn to food banks for emergency meals across the country. The North West Edinburgh Foodbank has fed 300 people since it opened in November last year.

Ewan Walker, operations manager of the North West Edinburgh Foodbank, said: “Scots are well known for their generosity but with a little help from senior politicians and local business entrepreneurs we could achieve so much more.”
