Flying the flag: The search is on for Olympic torch bearers

SCOTTISH swimmer Robbie Renwick yesterday launched a search for Olympic torch bearers beside the Forth bridges.

The Commonwealth gold medallist was promoting the Bank of Scotland London 2012 Olympic Torch Tour, to find people to carry the torch during its 70-day relay across the UK, which starts at Land's End next May.

Nominations are being sought for people who have made a "real difference" to their communities.

A bank spokesman said: "It could be you for the volunteering you do, the teenager who's helping young people in sport, the teacher who runs the after-school club, or anyone who's made a positive difference to their community."

The 14-date tour, which starts today in Aberdeen, reaches Edinburgh on 28-29 August to mark a year to the start of the Paralympic Games, and will also visit Blair Atholl, Inverness, Kirkwall, Perth, Dundee, Falkirk, Stirling, Ayr, Dumfries and Glasgow.

Robbie said: "I'm nominating my older sister, Kirsten, because she was my inspiration to take up swimming in the first place."
