Flood forces art gallery to abandon exhibition

AN art gallery was forced to close when a burst water main flooded the exhibition space.

The Ingleby Gallery, which opened in the former Venue nightclub on Calton Road two years ago, had to cut its current Sean Scully exhibition short when water was allowed to leak into the exhibition space for several hours.

Gallery owner Richard Ingleby said: "The main burst a week past Sunday. It is typical that it decided to go on a weekend when no-one is around to notice it. It's caused quite a bit of water damage to the walls, which need to dry out before they can be repainted. Luckily, none of the artworks were damaged.

"The Sean Scully exhibition has been running since early April so it's had a good run. We will definitely be open in time for the start of our key Edinburgh Art Festival exhibition, Iran do Esprito Santo, on 29 July.

"However, it's still business as usual behind the scenes."
