Flats receive new heating

A NOTORIOUS tower block in the Capital is to be fitted with a new communal heating system in a pilot scheme to cut emissions.

The scheme will be rolled out at other multi-storey flats across the city if the pilot at Cables House Wynd in Leith, known locally as the "banana flats", is judged a success.

Councillor Cammy Day said: "This innovative scheme will reduce fuel bills by over 50 per cent and will help bring people out of fuel poverty."
