Five years for teenage rapist

A TEENAGE intruder who raped a mother in her home before telling his victim he knew she had enjoyed sex with him was jailed yesterday for five years and three months.

Joshua Latham, who was 19 at the time, later returned home to his then girlfriend and told her: “I’ve been a bad boy.”

Sawmill worker Latham said that he had carried out a rape and that he would “go down for a lot of years”.

She reported it to the police in the morning but when officers first detained Latham about the sex attack on the 42-year-old woman he said: “She was up for it. She wanted it.”

Later he admitted he had gone into the victim’s home uninvited and had sex with her although she repeatedly said “No” and asked him to leave the house.

Judge Lord Matthews told Latham, now 20, at the High Court in Edinburgh: “Her child was in the house and you raped her while under the influence of alcohol. People are entitled to feel safe in their homes and this lady certainly does not now.”

He also ordered that the sex offender be kept under supervision for a further three years. Latham had earlier admitted raping the woman at her home in Elgin, in Morayshire, on 18 May.
