Five-month-old baby dies after incident in Fife

A FIVE-MONTH-OLD baby who is thought to have been attacked in her own home has died.

The baby, named as Hayley Davidson, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Police Scotland revealed.

She was being treated for injuries at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh since an incident at her home in Buckhaven, Fife, on Sunday.

A statement was issued by her family saying: “Hayley is a beautiful baby girl who was loved by everyone who met her and we, as a family, wish to be left alone to grieve at this difficult and trying time.”

A post-mortem examination and major investigation is now under way to determine the exact nature and cause of her death.

Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, the local commander, said: “This is an extremely tragic and sensitive case and I’d like to reassure Hayley’s family as well as the wider community that we’re conducting a robust investigation and appreciate the assistance provided.”

Hayley had been rushed to hospital by ambulance on Sunday after emergency services received a 999 call.

Police cordoned off the flat at West High Street, Buckhaven, Leven, at around 12.30pm on Sunday.

Police forensic officers were seen examining the area throughout Sunday and Monday.
