Five killed as army patrol struck in blast

Iraq: A roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol killed five soldiers today in the town of Baiji, 110 miles north of Baghdad.

It was the second lethal attack on an army convoy in two days. On Wednesday, two roadside bombs hit a patrol in the Diyala province, also killing five.

Italy: More than 100 flights at Rome's main airport were cancelled because of a ground staff protest against job cuts which are part of Alitalia's relaunch.
