Five charged after series of drug raids

FIVE people have been charged after police carried out a series of drug raids in the Capital.

More than a kilo of cannabis worth around £11,500 was found along with more than £7000 in cash after weekend searches in Hailesland Gardens and Sighthill Drive.

Two men aged 25 and 27 were arrested and were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Another address in Sighthill Drive was also raided and £1500 worth of heroin and cannabis and £400 in cash was recovered. A 47-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested and charged and were also due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

A 35-year-old man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal after officers seized eight cannabis plants during a search of his property in Clovenstone Gardens. Police also arrested a 35-year-old man for an alleged warrant offence.

The raids were part of Operation Cipher, which is aimed at tackling crime in the west of the Capital and Pentlands.

Chief Inspector Richard Thomas said: “Whenever we receive information relating to ongoing criminal activity we will respond accordingly.”
