Fisherman dies after airlift

A MAN has died after becoming unwell on board a fishing vessel in the North Sea.

The 37-year-old was airlifted to hospital along with two other crew members from the Starlight Rays vessel, which was performing stand-by duties for the oil industry in the Devenick Field, about 150 miles east of Aberdeen. He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with one other crewman, while the third was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick, Shetland.

Police said they are treating the death as “unexplained”, but it has been reported that the men were “overcome by fumes”.

The condition of the other two crewmen is not yet known.
