Firms urged to champion green causes

AN eco charity has launched a Green Champions scheme designed to encourage greater social responsibility among businesses.

Run by Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT), three firms - Edinburgh Airport, Arup and City Cabs - have already joined the project, which aims to improve the quality of green spaces while offering a range of outdoor challenges for staff.

ELGT fundraising manager Liz Stewart said although for many companies money was tight there was still a "keeness" to get involved with charitable giving locally.

The trust carries out practical environmental projects, such as the creation of community parks, gardens, woodlands, allotments and other greenspaces. It also works with communities in Edinburgh and the Lothians, encouraging people to get active and enjoying the parks and woodlands around the Capital.
