Firm reports surge in city rental values

THE cost of renting flats in Edinburgh has continued to rise throughout 2010.

New research by letting firm DJ Alexander has found that the cost of renting a two- bedroom flat in the Capital is now 785 compared to 735 in the first three months of the year.

Rents for one-bedroom flats have surged by more than 10 per cent, from 540 earlier this year to 597 a month now. Statistics in the company's rental tracker also indicate that there has been rising demand for family homes to rent.

Rob Trotter, senior property manager at the Dundas Street-based firm, said: "The rental market seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. As December approaches we would normally expect demand to tail off but this year there is no sign of this happening yet.

"The third quarter has shown a definite increase in families renting their principle place of residence."
