Firefighters tackle blaze in own station

Firefighters have tackled a blaze that started in their own station.

Two rooms were damaged when an electrical fault triggered the fire in the ceiling of the station in Glasgow.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said light smoke went into other areas of Polmadie community fire station on Wednesday night.

Station commander Dougie Boyd said: "This unfortunate incident shows just how important it is to have a working smoke alarm in place. A fire can happen to anyone, not even the fire service is immune.

"It is clear that without the early warning of our fire alarms, the damage and risk of injury could have been a great deal worse."

Polmadie Fire Station, on the southside of the city, covers Shawlands, Pollokshields, Queens Park and Govanhill.
