Firefighters tackle blaze in derelict Glasgow school

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a derelict school in Glasgow.

People went on social media at around 6pm on Wednesday to report a fire or explosion in the city’s west end.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman, said: “We have three appliances in attendance at a disused school in the Springburn area.”

Police confirmed that they had been made aware of the incident.

Katrine Armour, an eyewitness, tweeted: “Just seen terrible fire/explosion in #Glasgow. Hope everyone is ok.”

She told the Press Association that she was on Royston Road when she saw “a lot of smoke” coming from the building and debris falling from the side at around 5.45pm.

It is not known if there are any casualties.
