Firefighters free girl stuck in canal mud

A SCHOOLGIRL was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in mud at the side of a canal yesterday.

The girl was walking on the towpath of the Forth and Clyde canal at Banknock, Stirlingshire, when she stumbled down a steep embankment.

Firefighters were called to the scene and the girl was rescued by a rescue team using a rope.
