Firefighters battle blaze at Capital gym

FIREFIGHTERS were battling a blaze at an Edinburgh gym this morning.

The fire broke out within the roof space of Bannatyne's Health Club on Newcraighall Road at around 5am, and firefighters were still in attendance three hours later.

Nobody was inside the building at the time of the fire.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: "The firefighters are removing external cladding panels because they suspect the fire is in the cavity wall."

A total of seven appliances from Newcraighall, Musselburgh, Marionville, Liberton and McDonald Road attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
